Pianist tuning up for regional show
A CROSLAND Moor teenager will represent the Haydn Wood Music Festival at a regional talent show.
Grace Turner gained top marks at the festival in the Colne Valley last year.
Now, the 15-year-old is set to compete in the British and International Federation of Festivals’ Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire regional championship this month.
More than 20 festivals across the area nominated their winners for the music, speech and drama, and dance championship.
Approximately 34 performers, judged by six adjudicators, will compete to win trophies and monetary prizes.
Grace, who goes to Honley High School, will be playing Sonatina No. 1, Opus 13 by Dmitri Kabalevsky on the piano.
She started playing the piano aged seven and also plays the recorder, clarinet, oboe and saxophone and sings with the Huddersfield Choral Society’s junior choir.
She has been a member of various orchestras and has recently been on tour with the prestigious Kirklees Youth Symphony Orchestra.
The championship will take place at Carleton Community High School in Pontefract on September 9 from 10.30am until 4.00pm.
Tickets, which cost £5 each, can be purchased by calling 01226 752576 or at the event.
Refreshments, including lunch, will be available throughout the day on site.
