Winters win summer award for real ale pub

-

A BRIGHOUSE hairdresser is a finalist in the prestigious British Hairdressing Awards.

Gary Taylor, from Edward & Co, on Bradford Road in Brighouse town centre, has made it through to the awards hosted by Hairdressers Journal International.

North Western Hairdresser of the Year finalist Gary said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be finalising for this year’s British Hairdressing Awards! TWO years ago Vicky and David Winter decided to take on a major challenge.

They took over the lease of the Cross Keys in Hightown, Liversedge.

Vicky was working behind the bar at the pub and David was a chef at Healds Hall Hotel in Liversedge. Neither of them had ever run a pub before, but decided it was now or never.

At the time the pub was quiet and in need of building up and now, two years later, the couple have made a success of the business.

So much so it has won the Campaign for Real Ale’s Heavy Woollen Pub of the Season Award for summer 2017.

The award was presented by CAMRA branch chairman Andy Kassube.

Since taking over as publicans, Vicky and David have focused on making the pub a warm, welcoming place with a very friendly atmosphere.

David has also taken advantage of his chef’s background to start serving pub food. Sunday lunches are very popular.

“Having won this award twice previously it would be amazing to bring home the hat trick.

“These awards are renowned within the industry, so to be up there with the best of the best and flying the hairdressing flag in Brighouse feels fantastic.

“Fingers crossed for the final in November!”
