Lib’s Junior showtime
The Meltham Cup Pairs at Crosland Moor BC was won by Sean Price and Billy Shaw (Crosland Moor), who beat clubmates Ross Mallinson and Jeff Normanton 21-18. At the front is Association President Andrew Wadsworth ALMONDBURY Liberal Club won the Huddersfield Junior Team Knockout.
Sponsored by Mark and Janine Sykes and staged at Golcar Lib, the scratch handicappers beat Marsh Lib (20) 124-99 in the final.
It was a very competitive and ever-popular 20th running of the knockout.
The first semi-final between Junior League newcomers Golcar Lib and table toppers Almondbury Lib went the way of experience.
Almondbury Lib had four junior county players, but the young Golcar team were still in with a shout after three matches.
But a walk-over didn’t help and the Almondbury team were in no mood to let things slip, winning all five they played.
The second semi-final between Shepley and Marsh Lib was, on paper, a good match-up and some exceptional performances from all the Marsh team ensured their place in the final (139-109).
In the final, nine-year-old Ethan Hick replaced Marcus Jowitt (who was ill).
Ethan played very well to beat an in-form Megan Beresford 21-14.
It was always an uphill battle for Marsh against this very good Almondbury team, and the scores don’t reflect on how well they all played on a very tricky Golcar green.
Huddersfield Junior president Michael Haigh presented Almondbury Lib captain Cameron Ghaffar with the trophy.
Cameron thanked the sponsors, Mark and Janine, along with the referees and Golcar Lib for putting on the final.

Huddersfield A will take on Heavy Wollen A at Golcar Lib (7pm). ■■Peter Cliffe, Jason McMahon and Ray Whitwam of Crosland Moor won the Triples Competition.
In the final, they beat Neil Slattery, Andrew Wadsworth and Ian Briggs 21-18.
