In their final Yorkshire Inter-District Union fixture of the campaign they hosted the 2017 champions Sheffield and notched a fantastic 19-17 win at Halifax West End.

The victory was far from straightfo­rward as the hosts were 7-5 down against the table-toppers after the foursomes.

However, an excellent performanc­e in the singles, which were won 14-10, brought a hard-earned success.

The enough with Fixby’s Josh Morton and Meltham’s Tom Hunt ending all square against Matt Evans and Nick Poppleton.

That was followed by a 2&1 win for Longley Park’s Matthew Colcombe and West End’s Steve Martin against Matt Evans and Nathan Fell.

But the host Union’s only other foursomes win went to Chris Lander of Bradley Hall and Hanging Heaton’s Scott Minto as they beat Jordan Perry and Mick McGuiness 2&1.

The singles was a different affair as the home team produced five wins and four matches ended all square – the victories being produced by Fixby’s Richard Broadley, Martin, Hunt, Meltham’s Graham McLean and Dan Hartley of Dewsbury Dis-
