De Boer on

-

FRANK DE BOER insisted he will fight on as Crystal Palace manager despite watching the Eagles slide to their fourth straight Premier League defeat at Burnley.

An early blunder from Lee Chung-yong gifted the home side a third-minute lead they never relinquished despite an improved Palace performance.

Record signing Chris Wood marked his home league debut by pouncing on Lee’s glaring error and striking the ball firsttime past a helpless Wayne Hennessey to seal a 1-0 win for the Clarets.

De Boer’s position is set to come under further scrutiny but the Dutchman insisted his sole focus remains getting his side’s beleaguered campaign up and running.

De Boer said: “I am just focusing on what I can control and so are my staff and my players. (The future) is for other people to decide but while I’m the manager of Crystal Palace I will give 100%.”

In yesterday’s other game, Newcastle were without manager Rafa Benitez but still maanged a 1-0 win at Swansea.

Benitez, laid up due to an infection following recent hernia surgery, watched from afar as skipper Jamaal Lascelles headed in a 76th-minute corner for the only goal of the game.

Stoke manager Mark Hughes accused Jose Mourinho of sour grapes for refusing his handshake after Manchester United’s winning run ended.

United dropped Premier League points for the first time this season as Maxim ChoupoMoting capitalised on errors from Eric Bailly and Phil Jones to net a brace either side of efforts from Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku.

Mourinho was dismissive of what he perceived to be defensive tactics from the Potters in the 2-2 draw – a claim Hughes refuted – and at one point during the game the Portuguese was pushed by his counterpart when he entered his technical area.

There was then no handshake after the final whistle, a custom Hughes has previously been snubbed for by the likes of Tony Pulis and Arsene Wenger, and the Potters boss accused Mourinho of taking the result poorly.
