Emley aiming to bounce right back

-

AFC EMLEY will look to get back to winning ways when they face Nostell Miners Welfare tomorrow (7.45) in North East Counties first division.

Emley travel to Nostell having suffered their first defeat in four games as they went down 2-1 to Grimsby Borough at the Welfare Ground, but they face opponents who were hammered 8-1 at Selby Town at the weekend.

The clash with Grimsby proved to be a heated affair with two red cards and two disallowed goals.

It was Borough who had the ball in the net first when Adam Drury struck in the sixth minute, but the striker was ruled offside.

The visitors came close again when midfielder Jack Bradbury’s header went just over the bar.

The deadlock was broken by Borough in the 17th minute, when Jack Debnams shot was saved by Emley keeper Henry Kendrick, but the rebound was deflected into the path of James Wroot who tapped in from close range.

Drury again had the ball in the net, but again the goal was ruled offside.

Shortly before half time tempers began to flair and Borough’s Brendan Smythe received a yellow card for throwing the ball towards an Emley player after the whistle had been blown for a foul.

Early into the second half Smythe was shown a second yellow and given his marching orders, along with Emley’s Matthew Jackson after the pair had clashed.

Borough doubled their lead in the 65th minute when Bradbury took on two defenders before chipping the ball over Kendrick.

Emley continued pressing and their persistence paid off in the 75th minute when striker Lewis Dickinson headed home from a corner – his sixth goal in eight league appearances.

The home side pushed for an equaliser and continued to press late into added time, but some last ditch defending by the visitors kept the hosts at bay.
