-

LINTHWAITE primary school pupils were welcomed back after the summer holidays by retired professional footballer Andy Booth.

The 43-year-old, who is club ambassador for Huddersfield Town visited Linthwaite Ardron Church School’s first assembly after the holidays.

Carol Kitson, who works at the school on Church Lane, said: “The children were thrilled to see him arrive carrying the trophy that Huddersfield Town won at Wembley earlier this year.

“Andy spoke to the children about believing in themselves, and having the determination and grit to succeed – just as Town did when securing their place at Wembley.

“The children posed for photos with Andy and the cup – and are all set to sparkle in the new term – just like the trophy!”

Headteacher, Mrs Eelin Megson, said: “This was an excellent beginning to our school year and the children were hanging on to Andy’s every word.

“Many of our children and their families have been loyal supporters for many years and hold season tickets.

“The children are looking forward to seeing some of the best teams in the world play at Leeds Road this season.” and finished on September 6 outside the Houses of Parliament where hundreds took part in a peaceful demonstration.

Akeib, who took time off work for the walk, said: “I am pleased to say it was a huge success. It was very challenging for myself and my team.

“The public support by people I met during my walk, as well as the support we got from social media, has been overwhelming.

“After the walk, I was sore and in pain so I went into hospital to get checked and took a couple of days off work, but I’m recovered now.

“I’m already planning next year’s event which will be a bike ride, this time starting from Huddersfield and ending in London.”
