Lockwood finally win the Bistro Knockout

-

LOCKWOOD Con have won most things in Veterans bowling, but the one trophy that had eluded them until now was the Bistro KO.

The five-pair format seemed to be alien to them before, but no longer after their resounding 95-62 final win over Brockholes A.

Ironically, Brockholes sponsor this competition but that held no sway as the Section 2 leaders got a sample of what life could be like if they get promoted – and the vision is not welcoming. Section 1 leaders Lockwood Con were much too good for their opponents on the day on the Rugby Club green as they won four of the five pairings to run out comfortable winners.

The mist continues to clear in the Lockwood Windows Veterans League and the promotion and relegation issues are beginning to be settled.

Three teams have secured promotion and one team have been relegated over the past week.

Shepley’s two-year stay in the top Section has ended after their relegation was confirmed.

Happier news from Section 4 where the B teams of Golcar Lib and Almondbury BC are celebrating promotion.

Good news also for Denby Dale, whose promotion from Section 5 was sealed with a great 8-1 away win at Kirkheaton C&BC B.

Still lots to be settled and two more rounds of matches in the 10-Man League to be completed.

Things are no clearer at the top of Section 1 where Lockwood Con hit top spot for the first time this season.

What a time to do it with just two games to go.

That came about after their 7-2 away win at Lindley Lib A while previous long-term leaders Milnsbridge lost by the same scoreline at Clayton West.

It is still mathmatically possible for any one of eight teams to join Shepley in dropping out of the top section, so plenty of ongoing interest there.

Who will be replacing them from Section 2?

Any two from three with Brockholes A securing pole position following a 6-3 away win at Thorpe Green while previous leaders Crosland Moor had a really bad day when losing 8-1 at Meltham B.

Thongsbridge A stay third, even though they won 7-2 away at Broad Oak. Still very open at the foot of the table as well as any two from seven can still be relegated, which should concentrate the minds! Lockwood Con ...........................................
