Dyson wins Classic and Champion slot

-

JACK DYSON won the Rastrick Classic final to become the first player to be dual champion at the event.

Whoever won the final would achieve that honour because Dyson, who won in 2014, was up against Simon Coupe, who took the title in 2015.

After a steady start by both players, Dyson took control and after a brief fightback by Coupe went on to win in style.

Along with the winners prize of £1,000, Dyson also qualified for the Champion of Champions at the Waterloo Hotel in Blackpool this Saturday, where he plays Graeme Wilson who, coincidentally, was the beaten finalist at Rastrick when Dyson won in 2014!

Dyson thanked Clive Wilkinson of Marston’s brewery (main sponsor) and Neil Broadbent (Competition Organiser).

They are both four-pairs team handicap knockout events and are traditionally played on the same day, with the Plate first, followed by the Trophy.

Shepley had to play their B team and it was close for the initial part of the game, before running out convincing winners against Stocksbridge Friendship.

One of their pairs stormed to a 21-3 win and, with their 10-point handicap start, this sealed the win.

Shepley went on to win three out of the four pairs matches.

Millhouse Sports won the John Barlow Trophy, beating Stocksbridge BC 90-45.

Millhouse had a 10-point deficit to make up but after 21-2 and 21-4 wins, the match was all-but won.

A further 21-10 win followed and, soon after, the final match was conceded.

In the semi-finals, Millhouse beat Thongsbridge A.

Millhouse had 10 start and after the first two matches, the gap remained at 10.

Millhouse were edging the final two matches until the point was reached where Thongsbridge could no longer catch up and the match was conceded.
