GLADIATORS boxers put on an impressive show at a recent event in South Yorkshire.

The Huddersfield club’s squad travelled to the show at the Sheffield Works Dept venue.

First to box was Conner Doyle from Linthwaite who beat Matthew Carr.

Carr charged at Doyle, but the Gladiators fighter used some slick footwork and accurate punches to beat the Rotherham boxer by unanimous decision in the Yorkshire Senior Development series.

Doyle now faces last year’s national champion Charlie Edwards in the county final boxing for the Yorkshire Belt,

Golcar’s Bradley Jennings took on Nyasia Dzoti from the Sheffield City club.

A fine display of skill earned Bradley a victory on a split decision and he now faces Levi Kinsola from Steel City in the Yorkshire final,

There was as a Yorkshire final bout between Huddersfield’s Alex Dunka, from Paddock, and Dan Walker of Harrogate ABC.

Dunka won by a unanimous decision in a tough bout to join Thornton Lodge’s Salmon Tanvir as Huddersfield’s second Yorkshire Champion so far this season.

Dunka now boxes in the national quarter-finals on October 11 – Tanvir will be boxing in the national semi final the week after.

Callum McDonald is representing Yorkshire and boxes in Jersey on Friday.

“As a club we couldn’t be more proud of these young people,” said club manager Den Doyle.

“They are in the gym six days a week giving it 100 per cent, but with high rent we are really struggling and in real need of sponsorship.

“We really believe with a little help we could have someone represent Great Britain in the near future, soif any businesses could help in any way.”
