Events lined up for cancer charity day

-

IT’S Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning tomorrow and events have been lined up in Huddersfield to raise money for the cancer charity.

There will be a fundraising weekend for Macmillan at Skelmanthorpe Cricket Club.

It starts with a coffee morning from 11am on Saturday.

And on Sunday there will be a 5k fun run and walk started by Coronation Street actors Colson Smith and Sam Aston, plus there will be other fun, games and stalls.

The event will feature local band Thunder Bridge. The run will start at 1pm.

A coffee morning will be held at St John’s Church, St John’s Road, Birkby, on Friday from 10am to 12 noon.

Also tomorrow staff at BMI, The Huddersfield Hospital in Birkby, will be serving coffee and cakes to patients and visitors to the hospital on Birkby Hall Road from 10.30am.

Hospital Executive Director Liz Oke said: “Macmillan Cancer Care is a charity which is extremely close to our hearts.

“Every day we see people who have been touched by cancer, and we see how difficult it is sometimes to cope with the disease.

“Macmillan Cancer Care is doing an incredible job, and we are pleased to support their work.”

Thanks to the generosity of staff, patients and visitors last year, BMI was able to hand over a cheque for almost £12,000 to Macmillan Cancer Care.
