“When you come to England you know you’re going to play against big clubs like this and as a player it’s what you want.

“You want to play big games against teams like that and very big players. Every player wants to play against the best.”

Depoitre, signed from Porto in June for £3.5m, puts Tottenham’s Harry Kane in that bracket, with the England striker notching his 11th goal in seven appearances for club and country this week.

“I think he’s one of the best,” Depoitre added. “At the moment he’s one of the best because he’s scored a lot this month. It will be a hard job for our defenders.

“Harry Kane is a very good player, so we’re going to have to pay attention to him.”

Town head coach David Wagner will select from an unchanged squad for his side’s home game against Tottenham.

Wagner has no new injury concerns following last week’s goalless draw at Burnley, but club record signing Steve Mounie (foot) is still out having missed the last three games.

Fellow striker Collin Quaner (knee), plus midfielders Kasey Palmer (hamstring) and Danny Williams (foot) remain sidelined.

Dele Alli has been banned for one international match for making an offensive gesture during England’s World Cup qualifying match against Slovakia at Wembley last month.

Alli has also been fined 5,000 Swiss francs (£3,800) following the incident, although FIFA’s disciplinary committee said it accepted the gesture had not been aimed at the referee.

A FIFA spokesman said: “Following the incident that occurred during the match between England and Slovakia on 4 September 2017.. Dele Alli has been sanctioned with a suspension for one official match.”
