Sexual harassment and drink don’t mix

The statistics are revealed in a new Drinkaware/YouGov survey which reveals the extent to which alcohol-related sexual harassment in Yorkshire has become a normalised part of a night out.

On the back of these findings, Drinkaware is campaignin­g to put an end to unwanted drunken sexual harassment and its normalisat­ion.

The alcohol education charity aims to encourage witnesses to challenge the status quo by giving them informatio­n and advice on what to do if they see or suspect that someone is being harassed.

The three elements of the advice are:

Spot it - Is something dodgy happening? Check it - Is it safe to step in? Speak out - If it’s safe to do so, check with the person being targeted: Are they OK? If not, try staff or security.

“Being drunk is no excuse to grab, grope or make inappropri­ate comments to strangers on a night out after a few drinks A PRIMARY school in Huddersfie­ld has opened a new library.

St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School, Birkby, officially opened its library last week after many months of planning.

The library, which is decorated with a woodland theme, can be used by pupils, as well as their family members.

The ‘Families Reading Together’ project was funded by the school, parents’ group Friends of School and families, along with the Big Lottery Fund.

As well as during the school day, the library will open three days a week both before and after school for reading, research and exchanging books.
