Opportunity knocks for Giants winger

-

HUDDERSFIELD Giants winger Jermaine McGillvary could be in for a busy World Cup.

The 29-year-old is one of only two specialist wingers in head coach Wayne Bennett’s England squad for the 2017 tournamnet ddown under – Leeds Rhinos’ Ryan Hall is the other.

There are also only two specialist centres in Leeds’ Kallum Watkins and St Helens Mark Percival and utility man Stefan Ratchford could prove invaluable in the event of injury.

England’s Super League-based players will fly out from Manchester tomorrow (Thursday) and join up with their seven NRL colleagues for a 10-day camp in Perth.

They will play a warm-up match against an Affiliated States team on Friday, October 20, to prepare for their opening group game against holders Australia in Melbourne a week later. ■■Andrew Henderson has left his job as head coach of London Broncos to become assistant to new Warrington boss Steve Price.

The 38-year-old former Castleford, Barrow and Sheffield Eagles hooker, who represented Scotland in the last two World Cups, was named Kingstone Press Championship coach of the year after guiding the Broncos to a second-place finish in 2017.

Price, who has succeeded Tony Smith at the Wolves, said: “Andrew has always been enthusiastic and meticulous with his preparation and I saw that first hand when Cronulla played an exhibition game against the London Broncos ahead of the World Club Challenge.

“He comes to us on the back of a great season down at the Broncos and I am excited to be working alongside him as his experience within the game gives him a lot to offer the performance team here at Warrington.”

London say they have begun the process of finding a replacement for Henderson, who began his coaching career at Sheffield before joining the Broncos, initially as assistant to Joe Grima, in November 2014.

Henderson said: “It is a fantastic opportunity presented to me by Warrington. The club has a great infrastructure.” Beeston Broncos v Woodhouse Warriors, Clayton v Swillington, Birkenshaw Blue Dogs v Wyke, Oulton Raiders v Eastmoor Dragons, Wakefield City v Queensbury Sharlston Rovers v Hunslet Club Parkside,
