President Gant again in

JACK Dyson rounded off a highly successful season by winning the Huddersfield Champion of Champions title for the first time.

The Yorkshire Cup and Subscription Cup winner with Thongsbridge has previously lost three times in the semi-finals of the showpiece event sponsored by Armitage Leisure Services.

But this time there was no stopping the Yorkshire County ace on a Marsh United green he knows very well, and he took the £200 first prize with a 21-13 success against White Rose colleague Dave Fox.

Dyson – who has three-times won the Marsh United £2000 Competition – admitted he took time to get going in the Champions, but doggedly stuck to his guns and came through with some canny game management.

“It’s funny but I have a really good record against Dave and, while I know it counts for nothing, it did give me a bit of confidence for the final,” said Dyson.

“I won the toss and went straight for the corners, because Dave likes to play a shortish length, and I got off to a real start, being 9-0 up and having a nice cushion.

“I think I then went 19-5 up before Dave got in and went up the green edge, pulling it back to 13.

“But I managed to find one and PRESIDENT Craig Gant beat secretary Terry Brook in the first Sixteen final of the winter season at the Griffin Bowling Club.

And Gant’s 21-16 victory – earning him the first place in the club’s Champion of Champions on Easter Sunday – was particularly fitting because he was sponsoring the event!

Gant, who finished off the last winter season as a winner, started where he left off but had some scares along the way – such as winning from 17-5 down against David Scott in the last eight.

He then went on to beat Ray Whitwam to 16 before beating Brook in the final – showing he is again one of the main men to beat at the Colne Valley venue.

There is a chance that Gant and Brook could meet in the Rose Bowl next Sunday, too, which is a 31-up competition.

The Rose Bowl will start at 11am and is sponsored by Lockwood Con, with over £500 in prizemoney.
