Busy choir celebrates 50 years of singing
THIS year is a very special one for Denby Dale Ladies’ Choir as they are celebrating 50 years of singing.
They will be doing this in fine style with a gala concert in Huddersfield Town Hall on Saturday, October 21 at 7.30pm.
The concert will feature special guests Black Dyke Band and soprano Sarah Ogden with compère David Hoyle from Radio Leeds Sunday Afternoon Brass. The theme of the concert is Songs from the Stage and Screen.
The Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice at Brackenhall will benefit at this concert from the sale of souvenir programmes and a bucket collection at the end.
In April this year the choir was successful in winning the Ladies Choir Class at Eskdale Festival of Arts in Whitby.
In the same month the ladies joined Wakefield AOS Chorus and New Mill Male Voice Choir in Wakefield Cathedral for a concert to raise funds for Wakefield and Kirkwood Hospices.
Future events planned include a concert at St Saviour’s Church in Thurlstone with Millhouse Green Male Voice Choir on Saturday, November 18, who will also be celebrating 50 years of singing.
On Sunday, December 17 there will be a Christmas concert with Hade Edge Band at Denby Dale Methodist Church.
The choir has a membership of around 36 ladies who meet at Denby Dale Methodist Church every Thursday at 7.30pm, to enjoy singing and developing their vocal and choral skills under the highly talented musical director, Sarah Ogden and expert accompanist, Sue Ogden. New members are welcome.
