Busy choir cel­e­brates 50 years of singing

THIS year is a very spe­cial one for Denby Dale Ladies’ Choir as they are cel­e­brat­ing 50 years of singing.

They will be do­ing this in fine style with a gala con­cert in Hud­der­s­field Town Hall on Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 21 at 7.30pm.

The con­cert will fea­ture spe­cial guests Black Dyke Band and so­prano Sarah Og­den with com­père David Hoyle from Ra­dio Leeds Sun­day Af­ter­noon Brass. The theme of the con­cert is Songs from the Stage and Screen.

The For­get Me Not Chil­dren’s Hospice at Brack­en­hall will ben­e­fit at this con­cert from the sale of sou­venir pro­grammes and a bucket col­lec­tion at the end.

In April this year the choir was suc­cess­ful in win­ning the Ladies Choir Class at Eskdale Fes­ti­val of Arts in Whitby.

In the same month the ladies joined Wake­field AOS Cho­rus and New Mill Male Voice Choir in Wake­field Cathe­dral for a con­cert to raise funds for Wake­field and Kirk­wood Hospices.

Fu­ture events planned in­clude a con­cert at St Saviour’s Church in Thurl­stone with Mill­house Green Male Voice Choir on Satur­day, Novem­ber 18, who will also be cel­e­brat­ing 50 years of singing.

On Sun­day, De­cem­ber 17 there will be a Christmas con­cert with Hade Edge Band at Denby Dale Methodist Church.

The choir has a mem­ber­ship of around 36 ladies who meet at Denby Dale Methodist Church ev­ery Thurs­day at 7.30pm, to en­joy singing and de­vel­op­ing their vo­cal and cho­ral skills un­der the highly tal­ented mu­si­cal direc­tor, Sarah Og­den and ex­pert ac­com­pa­nist, Sue Og­den. New mem­bers are wel­come.
