WILL IT ALL BE REVEALED?

-

HERE were you when you heard President Kennedy had been assassinated on Friday, November 22, 1963?

It’s one of those indelible moments of history that everybody remembers.

I was travelling home for the weekend by train from Durham City where I worked.

As we pulled into Manchester Piccadilly, I heard the cry from newspaper sellers waving special editions with the headline: Kennedy Assassinated.

Lee Harvey Oswald was judged to be the lone sniper responsible and, ever since, conspiracy theories have blossomed, taken root and become a jungle of obfuscation.

But, if President Trump hasn’t changed his mind since the time of writing, the secret records of the event have just been released to the world.

They were sent to the National Archive in 1992 with the instruction they be published in full within 25 years – which was yesterday – unless the president says otherwise.

The theories stretched from Cuban and Russian involvement to Texas oil magnates to the CIA.

I’m not expecting any earth shattering exposes.

But one thing is for certain: the release of this material will not stop the conspiracy theorists. “There’s no evidence.” “But that’s the point.” they will say. ”That proves the conspiracy.”

The only thing that is certain is that the US would be a lot better off with a President with the hope and vision of JFK than the one currently occupying the White House.
