FEEDBACK Local independence and ‘goodbye’ to our council
Bob Wilson, broadcaster and former footballer, Henry Winkler, actor, Harry Hamlin, actor, Juliet Stevenson, actress Diego Maradona, former footballer Courtney Walsh, former cricketer, White, singer UNFORTUNATELY, the illdevised proposals to build 30,000 new homes within Kirklees in defiance of the majority and “the will of the people” must have dire future consequences for the ‘social and economic’ infrastructure of the existing residents.
This especially within the Colne/Holme Valleys, and is probably ‘the final nail in the coffin’ of Kirklees Council!
Indeed, this finality will be brought about (by failings of the Section 106 complimentary infrastructure), which in theory our services/infrastructure expand to cope, that to date despite the thousands of houses already built, has been totally non-existent!
Indeed, it now takes up to two weeks to arrange a doctor’s appointment; our Netherton schools are ‘allegedly’ full; our roads an utter disgrace; and traffic congestion at Slaithwaite, Milnsbridge and Meltham is nearing grid-lock! But what is the alternative? Perhaps we should start with ‘ward’ boundary changes and the restructuring of the 69 Councillors who purportedly serve our local communities at a cost of £860.000-plus and a ‘realignment’ of the Colne/Holme Valley‘s representation to reflect local accountability and ‘assess the needs’ of the existing populous without the imposition of another 65,000-plus citizens?
Moreover, the authorities ‘restructuring’ is long overdue and would save thousands within the public purse!
Hence, at the May 2018 local Elections, let us bring back true local democracy by declaring “independence” from Huddersfield West/Dewsbury/Batley through the West Riding of Yorkshire.
Meanwhile, the 1,624 ‘petitioners’ January 2016 (a vast majority of our Local residents) also shared these increasingly held views, and let us see our monies spent more wisely, thus predicting if matters continue the Kirklees ‘gravy-train’ is about to hit the Council-Tax buffers! NICE letter for a change about a patient’s regular visit to Halifax it is a lovely town and the cafe they visited is delightful.
It is good that they see it as an outing combined with the excellent treatment they received.
However, their journey there seemed quite eventful making the appointment by the skin of their teeth.
This is a best-case scenario and will no doubt be jumped on by the GHCCG as a positive.
However, any unplanned appointments ie emergencies, such as sudden illness in a child or a ruptured aorta, require a nearby hospital and clear roads.
This is impossible and has been for many years on the congested, frustrating drive from Huddersfield to Calderdale Hospital.
We are Pennine county and the terrain like the roads are inhospitable which means deadlock and ambulances and helicopters will not be able to reach their destination.
To create all this angst by the government and GHCCG is cruel and should this dreadful scheme come to fruition they will have blood on their hands!
Many lives will be lost in transit on this impassable road and, for the many people in this large university town of Huddersfield, there is inestimable concern about future health!
