Two minutes later Mallin tapped home on the line after the keeper made an initial save from Emily Heckler’s shot to put Town in front.

Stoke missed a glaring opportunity on the 64th minute when Ashleigh Hayes half volleyed shot was straight into the Town keeper’s hands.

Hayes then had a penalty appeal waved away in the 72nd minute as she clashed with Charley Kenyon in Town’s goal.

Town striker Heckler replaced Kenyon between the sticks as the Terriers didn’t have a substitute keeper on the bench.

In the 89th minute Mallin scored her second goal and Vickers was delighted with the result and said: “It was a great way to bounce back after last week’s loss in the cup, it was very much like last week’s performance.

“However, this time we were able to grind out the victory which was pleasing.”

Town play away at Wolverhampton Wanderers tomorrow, and will be hopefully of points against a Wolves side who sit second bottom of the league with just five points.

Town’s Development team produced another impressive display to beat Bolton Wanderers 8-1 away from home.

Town were soon ahead when Amy Broomhead pounced on a rebound to score from two yards out, and her strike partner Beth Allen added her first of the game four minutes later.

Broomhead added her second after good play down the left before Allen scored the best goal of the game when a Town goal kick led to the ball going through six players before Allen finished off the move without the opposition touching the ball.

Allen completed her hat trick from close range and a fine 20 yard strike from Ella McCamon put town comfortably 6-0 ahead at half-time.

Broomhead completed her hat trick soon after the restart, but Bolton pulled one back from a 30 yard free kick.

Laura Neimantas provided her second assist of the game for centre back Vicky Abbott to volley in.

The Development side now have a break from league action as they take on Blackburn in the last 16 of the league cup tomorrow (2pm).

Lauren Buckley gave them the lead after five minutes and by halftime they were five ahead with Sophie Digva on target before Faye Chadwick bagged a hat trick.

Chadwick added her fourth early in the second period, Digva completed her hat trick and Robyn Harris struck twice.
