The Watershed Theatre in Bridge Street, Slaithwaite, is to host a pop-up yarn market tomorrow (November 12). Named Wild About Wool it will run from 10.30am to 4pm.

The studio in The Watershed will be transformed into a Yarn Palace to inspire Wool Crafters with artisan yarn, designs and products for sale. Twelve yarn designers, producers and dyers will showcase their wares with the chance for visitors to browse, share ideas and be inspired.

Those featured include Turn Acre Ryeland Wool from Halifax with their hand spun yarns from British pedigree Ryeland sheep; All Wool That Ends Wool from Ashtonunder-Lyne with a great selection of bright and colourful hand dyed yarns and The Feminine Touch designer, Sandra Nesbitt, who incorporates local yarns Stylecraft and YarnStories from the Slaithwaite-based Spectrum Yarns into her projects.

The event also includes a Knit and Natter area, swap stall, knitting and crochet, a reference library of patterns, informal demonstrations and refreshments. For more information go to Facebook @aboutwool and pop-up yarn events. It is based at The Watershed in Slaithwaite and curated by Gill Bond from Satellite Arts.

Gill’s main job is as a community artist based at The Watershed. In 2011 she ran a heritage project that explored the history of domestic wool crafts and from that a band of knitters was established, meeting weekly to share and develop skills in knitting crochet and felting. It has gone from strength to strength.

Gill said: “This new Wild About Wool project creates an accessible, practical resource to support wool crafters of all abilities and interests. It promote the joys of making stuff in that wonderful material that is wool.”
