Dementia info gathering day in town centre

A DEMENTIA Friendly Day will be held in Huddersfie­ld town centre tomorrow.

Many events are lined up across town to give people as much informatio­n as possible about living with dementia and the impact it has on carers.

It is estimated there are more than 5,000 people living with dementia in Kirklees.

There will be stalls and informatio­n stands showing the services available across Kirklees for those affected by dementia in the sports hall at Huddersfie­ld Leisure Centre from noon to 2.30pm.

The training room at the centre will feature physical activity taster sessions from 1pm to 1.30pm and from 1.45pm to 2.15pm.

At 3pm in the same room there will be a dementia masterclas­s featuring guest speakers. Events are lined up across town tomorrow to give people as much informatio­n as possible about living with dementia and the impact it has on carers

Hour-long sessions in The Packhorse Centre at 10.30am and 2pm will give people the chace to learn a little more about dementia and the small, everyday things that you can do to help those living with dementia and how to become a Dementia Friend.

Between 10am and 12.30pm people can find out about carers’ rights and get legal advice at the Yorkshire Children’s Centre at Brian Jackson House on New North Parade.

The legal advice clinic will also be offering informatio­n and advice regarding wills and lasting power of attorney. There will also be a vintage tea party with cake decorating activities.

There is multi-sensory storytelli­ng of Robinson Crusoe for all the family at the Light Reading Room in Huddersfie­ld Library at 10.15am.

There will be a drop-in advice clinic for people with memory concerns at Age UK at 12 New Street from 10.30am to 1.30pm.
