Annual Christmas Fair for the hospice
VISITORS flocked to the Kirkwood Hospice Christmas Fair.
The two-day event, which was held at the University of Huddersfield for the first time, attracted hundreds of visitors over two days.
The Mayor of Kirklees, Clr Christine Iredale, officially opened the fair, which included stalls selling homemade decorations, Christmas treats, trinkets and festive tipples.
Entertainment included Yuletide music from the choirs of Kirkheaton Primary School, Whitechapel CE Primary School at Cleckheaton, Huddersfield Grammar School; Woodsome Beck and Woodsome Singers; Huddersfield Rock Choir and acoustic group Cocklebread.
There was face-painting and even some festive farmyard animals. Completing the Christmas theme, Santa Claus made a special appearance to entertaining eager children with a story or two.
Volunteers on the stalls included Edith Davidson, secretary of Kirkwood’s Batley and Birstall support group, who has been supporting the hospice’s Christmas Fair for over 10 years.
Hospice events organiser Kathryn Box said: “Once again, our annual Christmas Fair has proved to be a great weekend for the local community to enjoy festive activities and get their Christmas shopping done, all while supporting Kirkwood.
“Over the years, the Christmas Fair has become a stand-out event in the local Christmas calendar. We would like to thank our community of supporters, stall holders and our devoted volunteers for their continued support, which has helped to make the fair such a success.”
