Let’s all rally round for our sad Christmas tree

Stephen Poliakoff, playwright, Charlene Tilton, actress, Jeremy Northam, actor, Sarah Silverman, comedian and actress, THE sad, windswept christmas tree at Almondbury has come to my notice, the council hard up to find a better tree. ‘Humbug’! I am calling for all the kids in the village to decorate it up so it does our village proud.

In previous years the tree looked nice. So many kids look at the tree with joy on their faces.

So it is up to the village not to disappoint them. Perhaps the two charity shops could provide a few trimmings.

See you all at Christmas, and I hope the lonely forlorn tree is transformed into a bit of Christmas magic. what has age got to do with it?

They should be named and sentenced in the same way as other offenders.

Which is more important, the criminal or the victims?

In the USA in the 1980s young offenders who murdered people were sent to death row just like older people.

It was argued an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.

Let’s not go that far but let’s abolish the protection for young criminals. Anyone who commits MAY I take this opportunity to thank all those involved in this year’s Poppy Appeal in the Holmfirth area who helped raise in excess of £11,000.

Thanks to the collectors, especially Michael for his house to house, Douglas, Jeff, John, Christine, Libby, Margaret and Tim for their multiple shifts and another brilliant session from the army and airforce cadets.

The management and staff at the Co-op, Lidl, Charlesworths and Lloyds Bank for their help and co-operation during Remembrance time.

Neil for his never ending enthusiasm and support, Hade Edge band and Bolsterstone MVC for their truly memorable concert in Holmfirth church, which raised £1,000 each for the appeal and Holme Valley Memorial Hospital League of Friends.

Keith and his team at Holy Trinity once again excelled on Remembrance Sunday, followed by a well attended wreath laying service at war memorial.

But thanks, mostly, to the people of the valley who, once again, gave so generously to this year’s appeal.
