Some positive news from our roads at last!

-

There was a time when people had courtesy enough to give way to learner drivers. Now many people are just plain rude. Sir Geoff Hurst, former Kim Basinger, actress Teri Hatcher, actress, David Harewood, actor, Sinead O’Connor, singer, Dominic Monaghan, actor, Nicki Minaj, singer, FINALLY, Kirklees road planners have seen sense and painted some yellow lines on the left hand side approaching Folly Hall traffic lights!

It only took about a minute to reach Chapel Hill from Lockwood Bar yesterday morning instead of the usual five to 10 at peak times.

All we need now is a bus only lane approaching Lockwood Bar from the Woodhead Road side instead of the current fiasco of two lanes. dramatic footage of the big fire at Newsome Mill.

And then the meeting at Newsome scout hut featuring a local architect showing plans that could transform the burned out mill, also quite an interesting interview what could also be done if the mill is demolished but the clock tower must remain. And last but not least, the first class venue of Huddersfield Town Hall. interfered with this must have occurred early as the gamekeeper should have been around checking in the morning so as not to delay the torture of the unfortunate fox.

All snared animals suffer horribly in snares and do not sit quietly awaiting the blunt instrument in the morning.

The reference to protecting ground-nesting birds is the standard defence of the shooting lobby who have no interest in wildlife.

The ground-nesting birds they really protect are batterybred pheasants, or grouse, all cultured in unnatural numbers in order to be shot. The snares catch foxes, deer, hares, badgers and even humans on occasion.

It is acknowledged that more than 50% of snare victims are not the intended target.

Add to that the crows, rooks, jays, magpies, stoats and weasels which are routinely killed by the shooting fraternity in order to maximise the birds for the shoot and you start to get the picture.

So that is the side of game keeping which the police acknowledge as lawful and have done their duty in defending.

It is unfortunate they have not the resources to investigate the numerous occurrences of illegal fox hunting, sett blocking, badger baiting or the shooting and poisoning of hen harriers, peregrines, buzzards, in fact almost anything that is not a game bird.

I hope that when such incidents occur the police and CPS will give equal consideration to these wildlife crimes committed by our so-called guardians of the countryside.
