Touchscreen tech to get bus users moving
and Bradford – the touchscreen Information Points aim to make it easier for customers to access latest travel information for getting to and from work or for leisure trips across the county.
In addition to departure times and a journey planner, customers can also access information on timetable changes or find the phone number of the lost property department of the local bus operator.
The Metro-branded navy blue electronic touchscreen machines have also been installed at bus stations in Halifax, Dewsbury, Leeds, Bradford, Castleford, Keighley, Leeds and Pontefract. The information points can be used at any time the bus stations are open.
Clr Keith Wakefield, chair of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority transport committee, said the new information points would provide customers with real time updates through state-of-the-art technology to make getting around the county by bus easier than ever.
He said: “By encouraging more people to use bus services, the combined authority is helping to reduce the numbers of cars on the road as well as the levels of air pollution across West Yorkshire.”
New information displays are also being rolled out to West Yorkshire’s 14,000 bus shelters and bus stops from this month as part of Bus 18 – a joint initiative by the combined authority, bus operators Arriva, First, Transdev and the Association of Bus Operators in West Yorkshire to improve passenger experiences for West Yorkshire bus users in 2018.
