HUNDREDS of people are expected to attend the funeral of 15-year-old Katelyn Dawson – which is to be held on the same day as Joe Brook’s.

The funerals will be held on Wednesday, January 31.

Joe, 21, died in a separate road accident just two days after Katelyn lost her life.

Katelyn suffered fatal injuries when a car smashed into a bus stop where she was standing on Wakefield Road, Moldgreen, on Wednesday, January 10.

Joe died when his car crashed on Round Ings Road at Scapegoat Hill on Friday, January 12.

Since the tragedies there has been an outpouring of grief from friends and family members.

The causes of both deaths are still being investigated.

Katelyn’s family have announced her funeral service will be held at Huddersfield Parish Church at 1pm on January 31, followed by committal at Huddersfield Crematorium at 2.45pm.

Joe’s funeral will be at Scapegoat Hill Baptist Church at 1.45pm on January 31, followed by a committal at Huddersfield Crematorium at 3.15pm.

The vicar of Huddersfield, the Rev Canon Simon Moor, said the parish church was selected for Katelyn as it can accommodate 500 mourners.

If more people attend loudspeakers can be set up to relay the service into St Peter’s Gardens.

Books of condolence will be put out for people who knew Katelyn to sign before and after the service.

The family have also asked for donations to be made in Katelyn’s memory to the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice in Brackenhall. A collecting box will be available.

One of Katelyn’s friends, Eunique Dickenson, took to organising a Go Fund Me page towards Katelyn’s funeral costs, which has since proved a focus for her grieving friends to rally round and host events in the teenager’s memory.

The fund has now topped £6,500.

Eunique said: “We’re just overwhelmed with the donations so far. Lots of people are fundraising.

“I wasn’t even expecting to reach £1,000. I was so shocked I thought I was dreaming and I can’t thank everyone enough for their kind donations. She would be very proud of everyone!”

The post on the Go Fund Me page states: “All the money donated will go towards Katelyn’s funeral to make sure she has the send-off she deserves. I will be collecting these funds and the family will receive them. Thank you all for your kind donations.”
