Chappie calls time on his Outlane career
The pair moved to Whitby Golf Club for a short period and then returned to Huddersfield, where he once again joined Booth at Bradley Hall Golf Club as assistant.
Chapman moved back to Longley Park in 1982, where he enjoyed another five years after he was given the professional’s job.
In 1987 he then applied for the Outlane post – and now he will finally hang up his clubs after a superb and successful time at ‘The Slack.’
Chapman was president of the Huddersfield and Halifax Alliance in his early days at Outlane, where he had several years of success in their competitions, playing with a number of Outlane partners.
Chapman has a fine reputation of teaching new and existing members and also has devoted much of his time in recent years to teaching the juniors.
Outlane Junior Organiser Bob Hazelden, who is also celebrating 32 years in his position at the club, said: “David has made my job a lot easier by teaching our juniors from a young age with his clinics on a Saturday morning.
“This is definitely the reason behind our success in junior golf in recent years.
“The club’s juniors have represented the Halifax, Huddersfield District Union Of Golf Clubs in four Northern Finals and all of them have come through the ranks with David’s coaching.
“In fact three of them have gone on to be professionals themselves, and others have gone on to represent the club in the Union.”
Before dedicating his time to golf, Chapman was a footballer with Huddersfield Town boys and is a proficient snooker player.
