Winning home start is huge for Giants

-

they don’t, there’s a little of bounce back in week two.

“So the two teams will be pretty desperate. You definitely don’t want to lose your first two games.”

The Giants could give a debut to former Bradford Bulls forward Colton Roche in the absence of Michael Lawrence, who pulled a hamstring in the defeat on Humberside and is not included in the Giants 19-strong matchday squad, while winger Jermaine McGillvary is expected to return after sitting out the opening game with a knee injury.

Skipper Leroy Cudjoe, and forwards Tom Symonds and Shannon Wakeman and utility man Alex Mellor are also sidelined for the Giants.

Warrington coach Steve Price is set to stick with the side that ran Leeds close in their opening game. Front row forwards Sita Akauola and Dom Crosby, and centre and Meltham All Blacks product Toby King are still sidelined through injury.

Dewsbury Rams have signed England Academy prop Matty English on a season-long loan from the Giants. The 20-year-old made his debut for the Giants last season and was part of the England Academy squad that toured Australia in 2016.

Rams boss Neil Kelly said: “Matty showed up well against us in the pre-season, and against Wakefield, and he comes highlyrated.

“He is tipped by the papers as the player most likely to come to the fore for Huddersfield this season, but we’re hoping that he’s going to come to the fore with us. He adds depth to a pack that is already strong, but which perhaps lacks numbers.

“Huddersfield have the ability to call him back, but if they have a reasonable time with injuries then there’s every chance he’ll remain with us.”
