Education drive to aid pioneering technology

sound information, advice and support in the other areas of the chemotherapy journey.

Paxman has more than 1,000 cooling systems in 95% of hospitals in the UK providing scalp cooling treatment for cancer patients.

Despite this, the company said public awareness of the device is extremely low.

It is believed that only 10% of the public know what scalp cooling is – while 8% of patients refuse chemotherapy because they do not want to lose their hair. There are also several misconceptions about what the treatment involves – from both nurses and patients.

Paxman said it was keen to improve on those statistics and was working hard to ensure that its machines are being used effectively and that chemotherapy units understand exactly what scalp cooling is.

Claire Paxman, director of sales and training at the firm, said: “The accreditation programmes will provide achievable quality standards, supportive consultancy and benchmarking, all of which assist facilities to improve the quality of care for patents.

“Through the accreditation they will be given the knowledge, confidence and authority to offer advice to other clinicians if they are not using the system correctly.

“This in turn will enable the provision of additional support within the unit and enhance best practice and use of all of scalp cooling systems.” ARKETING and PR will be the topic for the next meeting of the Huddersfield Town Enterprise Academy.

The event, entitled Pitch Perfect PR, will feature speakers David Threlfall-Sykes, head of marketing at Huddersfield Town; Andy Bounds, North of England correspondent for the Financial Times; and Alison Puente, a partner and director at Finn, who has previously worked for Yorkshire & Clydesdale Bank and as head of PR at Pace plc.

The event will get under way at 8am with breakfast and networking on Thursday, February 15, at Kirklees College’s Landings 72 Restaurant at Chapel Hill.

The key speakers will give their top tips on PR before taking questions from the floor.
