The arrogance in court

-

IN regard to the possibility of our Council Tax going up 6%, even in Southampton it’s going up 6% and that’s a Tory council.

This is an attempt to null the government funding by taking it off the population, rather than the government funding the council shortfalls.

The largest amount borrowed by any government in history ... and they are still cutting everything. Where is this money I REFER to M Carter’s letter in the Examiner (February 7).

Perhaps M Carter can point to a successful career in commerce and industry or perhaps he is a distinguished academic able to analyse and critique the “unsound data” he alludes to in his letter.

Or maybe he is just regurgitating the Brexit lobby line, as trumpeted daily in the rightwing press, which seems to have closed its mind to any alternative viewpoint.

The proof of the pudding will be in the eating and, as things stand, there is considerable WITH judges reluctant to lock up immature repeat offenders (S Finnegan, Examiner February 5) who imagine themselves at the start of a successful career in crime, I am a great fan of marking ‘significant’ ages in a positive way, to celebrate being alive and, thankfully, being healthy.

This year I am turning 50 and rather than throwing a big party I’ve decided to celebrate in a way that benefits other people.

So throughout 2018 I will be completing ‘Challenge 50’ - 50
