Eco group boosted by video from schoolboy

-

A SCHOOLBOY from Golcar has filmed and edited a video promoting a community group’s work to improve the local environment.

Fabian Ellis, 13, filmed Golcar Lily Environment Group volunteers picking litter, cutting back overgrown trees and cleaning up paths and ginnels.

During the three-minute promotional video, which has been posted on YouTube, Fabian asked people why they had volunteered and what they enjoyed about it.

One boy said: “I really like the fresh air and not being stuck inside. When you are outside there’s lots of things to do.”

A woman volunteer said: “I feel very loyal towards Golcar. The nicer we can make it look the better it is for everyone.”

Fabian also asked people if they enjoyed the litter picking and tidying up.

One man said he had met new friends through volunteering, adding: “We have met people who live just up the road from us – it’s good to know your neighbours and find you have things in common.”

The Environment Group’s next project is taking place on Saturday, March 3 from 10.30am – 3pm. Volunteers are asked to meet at the small wood opposite Colne Valley Museum.

A spokesman said: “Come and join us if you can and make a note of the date.

“We are hoping to start putting in steps for the newly discovered footpath, clear the ginnels of rubbish and spruce up Town End.”

The spokesman said the promotional film had been produced to encourage more people to volunteer.
