invested in the characters.”

The route to becoming a script writer took Becky from York University, where she graduated in 2004 with a degree in writing and performance, to the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester as a Young People’s Programme Leader.

In 2016 she was fortunate to secure a place on the BBC TV Drama Writer’s Programme, which helped to develop her script-writing skills.

Now the mother of two young children, Ivan, four, and Maggie, six, she has a burgeoning career, supported by the fact that her parents live nearby and can offer childcare.

She says her ideas come from “listening to people, paying attention to the world around them” and being part of a large family of storytellers.

The theme for Chip Shop Chips came to her while sitting in a chip shop when pregnant with her son.

She says: “I was watching these characters coming and going and listening to what they said.”

Chip Shop Chips by Box Of Tricks, a Manchester-based theatre company, is at the Navigation Tavern in Mirfield on Tuesday, March 13; The Leggers Inn, Dewsbury on Wednesday, March 14; and Mill Valley Brewery in Cleckheaton on Thursday, March 15.

All performances start at 7.30pm and tickets (£8) must be booked (as fish suppers have to be ordered).
