YMCA blown away by their derby rivals

-

it 12-0 to the visitors.

As the half drew to a close Stead reduced the deficit with two well-struck penalties as the YM came more into the game.

The beginning of the second half was end-toend, but it was Cleckheaton who went 22-6 ahead with a converted try from winger Haywood and a Sweetman penalty, as the YM were unable to breech the visitors’ tight defence.

Although now on the back foot the YM were thrown a lifeline when the Moorenders were reduced to 14 men as prop Turner was given 10 minutes for a dangerous tackle. The home team were quick to take advantage when, after neat work by both forwards and backs, full back Fletcher scored wide out, Stead converted to give the YM a glimmer of hope at 22-13.

Unfortunately for the home team this was their last score as the big Cleckheaton side had YM on the ropes and dominated the last 20 minutes, scoring three more comverted tries.

The first came as right wing Hayward sliced through some woeful YM defending to run in from 30 metres out.

The last two, from set-piece scrums in the YM 22, were straight off the training ground as first Matt Piper was put through a huge hole in the home defence to score under the posts.

Then from an identical position left wing Fitzsimons looped round to score in the right corner to complete a dismal afternoon for the home team.
