Schools side hold out for success in bizarre contest
HUDDERSFIELD Schools FA’s Under 15 notched a battling 3-2 over Nottingham.
At Storthes Hall Park as Huddersfield Schools were a goal down early, Huddersfield fought back to create numerous chances before Huey Burchill forced an equaliser. The match took a bizarre twist. The award of a penalty to the visitors then led to a red card for Huddersfield, though fortunately for the home side the penalty was sent wide of the post.
A further injury saw Nottingham then down to nine players, yet still they seemed to find space as they threatened in attack.
As the second half wore on Huddersfield began to take some control with Sam Hirst back to his best after injury dominating midfield, while two goals from Jon Codi Batler and a Daniel Lewis header gave Huddersfield a 3-1 cushion.
This should have been many more as chances continued to be missed and the failure to put the game to bed almost came back to haunt them as Nottingham pulled a goal back.
The man disadvantage didn’t seem to inhibit Nottingham though come the final whistle Huddersfield had once gain shown their own fighting qualities in holding on for a 3-2 win.
Next up for Huddersfield’s Under 15 side is more league action after Easter with a home game against unbeaten league leaders Harrogate.
