Playground refurbished by house builders’ cash
■■An attempt was made to break into a Ford Transit on New Hey Road but the thieves were disturbed and fled on March 9 at 8.20 pm. when it is considered that the development will have a significant impact on the local area, with the money used to support the provision of local services and infrastructure.
Daisy Lea recreation ground is well used by students at nearby Lindley CE Infant School and Lindley Junior School.
It is anticipated that the new path will improve access between Daisy Lea Lane and Holly Bank Road.
Councillor Cahal Burke worked with local residents and council officers in developing the scheme.
He said: “This is good news for Lindley as the works will further enhance the recreation ground as a vibrant, open space, and will further improve the facilities.
“Because of the number of housing developments in the area, it’s important to have adequate facilities in place, so this scheme will help.
“I’m particularly pleased that my recommendation of a path was included in the scheme.
“It will benefit local users, including local school pupils and parents and other residents and users.
“I’m also confident the improvement works to the play area will benefit young people in the area.”
Rowena Burton, from the careers department who organised the event, commented: “We started the Employer and Gap Year Fair five years ago to target students who do not want to go to university but do want a high level apprenticeship.
“Including universities for the first time and rebranding it as Options@18 has proved hugely successful.
“Twice as many people attended and we retained the same high quality of employers.”
