Teen charged after knife attack in town centre
A MAN has appeared in court accused of assaulting a young child in the street.
Chris Sutcliffe, of Swan Court in Swan Lane, Lockwood, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The alleged attack happened on September 18 last year and involved a two-year-old boy, Kirklees magistrates were told.
The 32-year-old allegedly picked the child up by his arms and kicked him.
The incident, on a Newsome street, was witnessed by members of the public and allegedly happened after the boy ran into a garden.
Sutcliffe denies any wrongdoing and his trial will take place at the Huddersfield court on July 9.
He was granted unconditional bail in the meantime.
However, the Examiner understands that a bail hearing will be heard in court over the next few days.
Police were called to Queen Street, near to Tokyo nightclub, at 4.30am to reports a man had been hurt.
They found him and he was taken to hospital.
His injuries were not said to be life-threatening.
A large area of Queen Street, from Queensgate, opposite the University of Huddersfield, was cordoned off while investigations got underway.
Police are continuing appeal for information.
