And Armitage was top breakmaker in the Billiards League with a splendid 75 against Ray Bowden of Berry Brow Lib.

Bodsworth’s was one of 14 breaks of 25 or more recorded in the snooker.

Martin Wood of Milnsbridge Lib A, Joe Lee of New Mill B and Simon Herbert of Hillhouse & Birkby BC C all recorded breaks of 25.

Both Robert Dolan of Paddock C&BC B and Richard Parr of New Mill WEST Yorkshire Blackball County pool are hoping to recruit from Huddersfield after the A team won the National title.

They start the new county season on April 22, playing from the White Rose in Ossett, and they are looking to strengthen the squads.

Players would be welcome for the men’s A, B and C teams, along with the Ladies, Youths and Seniors – but especially the Youths, who are Under 18s.

Inquiries should be made to county manager Darren Brown at dazbrown23@ icloud.com

He can also be contacted by anyone wishing to sponsor the teams for the new season.

West Yorkshire had all five teams (A, B, C, Youths and Ladies) reach the knockout semifinals at the nationals. B had 26s, while John Siswick of Milnsbridge Lib A and Jack EllisPownall of Meltham Lib B both registered a break of 28.

Martin Goodier of Paddock Con B made a 29, Neil Ewart of Lower Hopton WMC had a 31 and Shaun Peacock of Marsden Con recorded a 38.

Mohammed Saeed of Crosland Moor Con D made a 40, while Armitage had breaks of 48 and 34 for Marsh Lib B,

Unfortunately, three of those teams – men’s B, Ladies and Youths – fell at that stage.

The men’s A and C teams both faced Essex in their finals, with the C team just failing to defend their title and losing out 14-10. For the men’s A team, however, it was glory. They managed to fight back from 4-1 and 8-5 down to finally go in front for the first time at 10-9, finally clinching the title 14-11 with a masterclass finish from legend Steve Webster.

In the process, West Yorkshire became the first A team to win fielding a youth player in their team.

“As a county manager, I’m proud of every person that travelled to showcase their skills on the biggest stage,” said Brown.

“We’re growing as a county and will only get bigger.”

Apart form Armitage, there were five other breaks of 25 or more in the Billiards League.

Martin Wood of Milnsbridge Lib A had a 35 break, Brian Cousen of Lindley Lib made a 42 and Scott Lawton of Milnsbridge Lib A had breaks of 50 and 42.

Tony Clegg of Marsh Lib A topped those with a 51.

There were no breaks of 25 or more in the Veterans Snooker League.
