competition, and they won the title in 2014 and 2015.

Thorman insists he is still up for a relegation fight as he searches for like-minded players in the wake of their 66-4 capitulation at the hands of St Helens.

Huddersfield, who survived via the Super 8s Qualifiers in 2016, have taken just a point from five matches since Thorman stepped into the breach and are only a point ahead of bottom club Catalans Dragons.

Thorman, in his second stint as caretaker boss, does not expect an imminent appointment of a new head coach and says he is happy to keep hold of the reins for as long as necessary.

“The club are going through a process and it has to be a diligent process because what we can’t do is make a mistake,” said the former York head coach.

“So the club will take as long as they need to go through that process.

“As I’ve said from day one, I’m here to do as good a job as I can with the resources that I have and I’m working really hard for the club, as I have for the last five years.

“What will be, will be but right now I’m focused on trying to find some players that are up for the fight.”

Thorman accused his players of “giving in” against St Helens, who scored 12 tries. Nine men were out injured for the game.

“We are going to start getting people back, which is a godsend, because we need them,” he said.

“We need some leaders, we need some blokes that have been there and done it before, so we’re not relying on kids to do it all the time consistently.”

Thorman says full-back Jake Mamo and second rower Michael Lawrence could return for Friday’s trip to Warrington.
