So proud of Terriers but hotel lets us down

-

Thank you Dr Dunlop for speaking out. I have a lot of respect for this lovely lady who was my dad’s GP a few years back and she sees the reality of frontline services. James Fox, actor, Robert Kilroy-Silk, former politician and television presenter, Pete Townshend guitarist and singer Grace Jones, model, singer and actress, Jodi Picoult, author, Amanda de Cadenet actress and photographer, Sam Smith, singer, CONGRATULATIONS to our fantastic football team on their miraculous survival in the Premier League.

The team’s performance at Manchester City in particular was one of the best I have witnessed in over 50 years of supporting Town.

The home games attract 3,000-plus visitors to our town from all over the country.

Although some travel direct by coach, many others use the excellent rail links to arrive in our town.

As they step outside our rail station their eyes must be first drawn not to our magnificent square straight ahead but to the left and the sight of a sad, neglected and fast dilapidating building that is the former George Hotel.

The current owner, who has come nowhere near to fulfilling the promises he made when he initially bought the property, cannot even be bothered to replace the tatty flags that fly almost with embarrassment at the front of this once proud building. I WAS saddened indeed at hearing of the passing of Ray Wilson (pictured). I had the pleasure of meeting Ray on several occasions and found him a most interesting and easy going gentleman.

Desperate as I was to hear of his World Cup win in 1966, he was modest in his reference to signing autographs and mingling for photographs once people recognised just who he was.

A super Huddersfield Town player and great ambassador for his sport.

He will be sadly missed by his family and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
