Wheelers showing fantastic form

-

HUDDERSFIELD Star Wheelers youth riders have been producing some stunning performances.

It was the British Schools’ Yorkshire Circuit Championships at Richard Dunn Sports Centre in Bradford, when four Star Wheeler riders were taking part representing their schools.

Any Mourne of King James School won the Under 13 girls title.

She rode excellently, closing down an early break before riding aggressively and breaking herself with two laps to go to go clear and take the title.

This was very strong riding and a welldeserved victory.

Laura Ibbotson of Honley High then took the Over 15 title with another strong race, beating the boys who were racing at the same time.

In the Under 9 boys, Jody Mills of The Mount School took second place in a strong field.

Having set an aggressive pace it was between four boys with half a lap to go.

Jody and another broke free and it all came down to a sprint finish, with Jody missing out by a wheel length.

Ewan Plumb of Kirkburton First School also rode in the Under 7 boys, in one of his first circuit races, and put in a great ride.

Mills was also racing, this time representing the Star Wheelers, at the TLI National Youth Circuit Championships held at Oulton Park in Cheshire.

This was a massive race along the 1.6-mile undulating motorbike course, lasting 30 minutes.

Again the race was at a blistering pace with five riders clear and each had an attempt to break it up to no avail.

Again it all came down to a sprint finish, with Jody pipped in fourth place, just missing out on a podium.

This was still a fine result at the National Championships in a very strong field.
