ARAN THOMAS from West Slaithwaite won four titles to take his Yorkshire Track and Field Championships tally to 15 in four years.

The championships took place at the Dorothy Hymen Stadium, Barnsley, and presenting the medals was Dorothy Hymen herself, twice an Olympian and three times Olympic medalist.

Thomas entered the shot put, discus, javelin and pole vault and won gold in all four.

All of his throws were AAA Grade 1s, with distances of 13.82m in the shot, 46.55m in the discus and 50.72m in the javelin.

In respect of the discus and shot put, Thomas has been unbeaten in the County Championships since 2015 and retained the Yorkshire Championship title for the fourth consecutive year; as well as the third consecutive year for the pole vault.

He has won three of the last four County javelin titles.

Thomas, honoured in 2017 as Yorkshire’s Young Thrower of the Year, is currently ranked No1 in the UK for the Under 17 discus, this following a superb throw of 50.23m at Cudworth in the Yorkshire and District Athletic League in April.

This was also a new and substantial Athletic Club record.
