Establishment elite sit on both sides of debate
Sir Ian McKellen, actor, Alastair Campbell, former director of communications for the Labour Party, Paul Weller, rock musician, Julian Clary, comedian, Anthea Turner, TV presenter, Mike Myers, actor, writer and producer, Anne Heche, actress, Robert Croft, former cricketer, Jamie Kennedy, actor and comedian, Cillian Murphy, actor,
Jonny Wilkinson, former rugby player, THE question for me is: Is Nick Martinek on the payroll at the Examiner?
However I then realised that a decent publication would not pay for his biased, ill informed, and naive ramblings.
His assertion that the EU represents the establishment elite is both misleading and stupid.
Does he really believe that brexiteers like Jacob Rees Mogg, Paul Dacre, Rupert Murdoch, Aaron Banks, Boris Johnson, Nigel Farage et al aren’t either the real establishment elite or their paid representatives?
Brexit is a project of the altright and the mega rich establishment, to protect and enhance their grip on power and influence, predominantly at the expense of working people who will take the brunt of the job losses and increased austerity which will follow.
It’s the EU which is introducing legislation to counter tax evasion, whereas the brexiteers are intent on making it easier for rich individuals and corporations to manipulate the system and pay minimal taxes in the UK.
It’s the alt-right asset strippers and profiteering friends of disgraced Liam Fox who support Brexit as a means to an end to dismantle the NHS and turn it from being a service free at the point of delivery into a profiteering cash cow, with people paying, at the behest of protectionist Donald Trump, over the odds for their medicines etc.
The comparison between the EU and the Roman Empire is disingenuous in the extreme. The Romans created their empire by brutal force. The EU was created as a bulwark against military domination and to, successfully, prevent future conflict.
If any democracy is a fig leaf right now it is here in the UK, where the views of future generations are being ignored in favour of those of a dwindling generation, obsessed by WWII and a bigoted view on immigration particularly of those with a different coloured skin who, in the main do not, of course, come from the EU.
If anyone is a “sycophantic follower” of power and is being duped it’s Mr Martinek and his ilk. They have been conned by the real establishment elite, masquerading as men of the people, when their real objective is to ensure that they remain in power and the rest of us return to serfdom.
So Mr Martinek, just be aware of who you are being conned by and, as a result, how many future generations you are betraying and consigning to a mediocre future in your idealistic little England.
