Happy ever after? Unlikely W

-

HEN Hannah discovered Nathan’s affair, it was just like that Love Actually scene with Emma Thompson all over again. Thank goodness Joni Mitchell wasn’t playing in the background, we were already in bits.

As this brilliant family saga concludes, the big question is, will Hannah (Nicola Walker) stay with Nathan (Stephen Mangan), despite the fact that he slept with that Brussels woman “because he was lonely”?

Christie (Barry Atsma) did make a rather good point though when he called Hannah a hypocrite. She slept with Christie the night before her wedding and the pair have been making eyes at each other for years.

“I’ve never liked Christie,” shouts Nathan. “He’s too tall, too blonde, too Danish.” “He’s Dutch,” says Hannah. “I don’t care,” retorts Nathan.

Now Hannah is wandering along the Thames and across London bridges, trying to figure out what to do.

Meanwhile, Rose (Fiona Button) and James (Rudi Dharmalingam) are forging ahead with their wedding and the family must rally. The Defoes don’t do weddings, they’re much better at divorces.

“Did you know 45% of marriages end in divorce?” Ruth (Deborah Findlay) kindly informs the couple.

Elsewhere, in preparation for court, Goldie (Meera Syal) gets her wedding ring cut off. “You’re free” says the ring cutter. Wonder if he says that to all the girls.

And there’s news about Christie that will force Hannah to confront her past.

It’s hard to see any ending that will be a happily ever after for everyone. Thank goodness TV bosses have already confirmed a second series.
