Time for our council to smarten up the district

-

TOO many cuts seemingly lead to no cuts.

What on earth is happening in Huddersfield? Why is there a lack of grass cutting and general tidiness?

Can a member of Kirklees Council drive round and look at the following areas which are a couple of examples showing what an eyesore Huddersfield is presently.

From Fartown up to Fixby roundabout the grass is almost the same height in the central reservations as the height of the speed cameras.

From the Sun Inn at Rastrick up to Ainley Top roundabout the grass requires cutting along with discarded fast food packaging, bottles and cans lying in the long grass.

Also Edgerton to Birkby Road tends to be littered with similar rubbish, mainly on a Sunday morning having been thrown there by irresponsible motorists/passengers.

Why not give those individuals currently on community service orders rubber gloves and bin bags to collect this rubbish. US president Donald Trump was right. Britain has a knife crime problem and they have a gun problem.

Both are lethal weapons in the wrong hands and it seems in America people can make themselves available to guns, as we can to knives.

Our young must be taught that both weapons are no-go areas and must be avoided in a civilised society. If not, large prison sentences are the likelihood.

A complete change of mindset is the only answer in regards to knives. Is it fear of bullying why they are carried or intimidation by gangs?

Whichever it is, it must be stamped out, bringing an end to the terrible wounds and fatalities they cause.

Are many carried because police numbers are down and people feel they have less chance of being found out?

Carrying one could end with you up on a murder charge - so SO many incidents in our town, many involving offensive weapons and most used by teenagers.

It makes you wonder if the police are losing control of streets in Huddersfield.

It will not be long before someone innocent is in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Police will say they have sufficient resources to deal with trouble, so what is going wrong?

Maybe the streets are not given priority any more. If they were, many more violent crimes would be stopped.

Now the brilliant idea to let some out of prison to do jobs in the community. I have a better idea, lock us all up to avoid all the violent crimes and then let them all out.

Huddersfield used to be a safe town to walk round, now it is not. For most it is lockdown at 7pm, not daring to venture out.
