The 21-year-old who works for Lloyds Bank in Copley cashed in with some superb bowling, culminating in a thrillin 21-20 victory over Connor Davies in a showpiece sponsored by Sticky Fingers Childcare.

Just when it mattered, former Huddersfield and Yorkshire Junior captain Haigh came up with the goods.

“It was very close and very, very tense for both me and Connor,” said Haigh, who came up through the ranks at Kirkheaton Con.

“I gave him a bit of room when it was 19 across on the secondlast end and he was one on, but he bowled off.

“Connor then led with a brilliant one to the corner, about six inches from the block, but I managed to get two inside it.

Haigh overcame some real quality en route to the title.

Yorkshire ace Jack Dyson was the next victim for Haigh, before he took out Gareth Metcalfe, on his own Slaithwaite green, to reach the semis.

He then beat another county man, Josh Brown, to make it into the final.

“I’ve got my name down for all the Huddersfield competitions after this win,” added Haigh.
