Two decades of growth for The Cubicle Centre

The firm, based at Caldervale Business Park, was launched in 1988 by Andrew Thorpe, his father David, and their colleague Clive Hannan. At that time, all they had to work with was a tabletop edge banding machine and a portable electric circular saw.

From these small beginnings, the company launched several other brands within its group – providing everything from school furniture and specialist joinery products to commercial plumbing supplies and more recently fire doors.

David Thorpe is chairman of the business with Andrew as managing director and Andrew’s son Rob as operations director.

The Cubicle Centre has supplied cubicles to clients across the UK – including holiday parks, schools, pubs, nightclubs, The National Trust, fitness centres, the Olympic Village and even the guards’ rest room at Buckingham Palace. Other venues include Portmeirio­n in Wales, Fountains Abbey in North Yorkshire and Reading FC’s Madejski Stadium. Its first major deal came in 1998 when Wolseley awarded the Cubicle Centre a contract to supply 800 cubicles and the firm set up its first production line.

In 2005, the firm developed and launched its Pendle range – dispatched within 24 hours – to meet customer demand for faster delivery times. Three years later, the Cubicle Centre launched its Plumbware.co. uk website to supply washroom products.

In 2014, the firm was named SME of the Year and ‘Best of the Best’ at the Yorkshire & Humber Constructi­ng Excellence Awards.

The following year, it launched Calder Joinery to expand its capabiliti­es and in 2016 increased factory space, invested in specialist machinery and added experience­d members to the team.
