Josh is strides ahead at Lindley

A GYMNASTICS club for young people and babies has moved into Brighouse.

Iconic Gymnastics Academy first launched in February 2017 and used village halls across Norland, Elland and Rastrick to train its members RUNNERS from Longwood Harriers put in some impressive performanc­es at the popular Lindley 10K.

A total of 474 runners competed in the long distance race with the Harriers’ Josh Elderfield coming a fantastic seventh overall.

Josh crossed the line in just 38.25 minutes. Another outstandin­g performanc­e came from under 20 runner, Joe Thompson, who claimed 22nd spot overall with a time of 43.01 minutes - coming second in his age category.

Also second in his age group was Ian Mitchell in the V65 category. He finished with a time of 48.5s minutes - just 24 seconds behind the V65 winner and 71st overall.

Longwood Harriers results in aged from pre-school upwards.

Now the Academy has moved into a 4,500 square foot space in St Pegs Mill, Thornhill Beck Lane, Brighouse.

This means the Academy can continue to grow its British Gymnastics-affiliated club’s full: Josh Elderfield 7th in 38.25 mins, Joe Thompson 22nd in 43.01 mins, Dave Martin 51st in 46.58 mins, Craig Mitchell 62nd in 48.19 mins, Ian Mitchell 71st in 48.53 mins, Mick Proctor 98th in 51.33 mins, Heather Mithcell 165th in 54.48 mins, Brigid Walsh 404th in 1 hour 12.18 mins.

On Sunday June 24 Longwood Harriers clocked some equally notable times at the Northern Masters Track and Field Championsh­ips.

Ian Mitchell 3rd in 6.12 mins (1500m), Jim McCormack 1st in 16.47 mins (3000m), Dave Shelton 2nd in 17 secs (100m) and 3rd in 35.3 secs (200m), Debra Casson 1st in 15.7 secs (100m) and 1st in 33.4 secs (200m). membership and successes to help train the next Nile Wilsons and budding Beth Tweddles.

The 100-member strong Academy specialise­s in TeamGym – a team competitio­n which includes routines covering floor, trampette and a tumbling track. At the helm are Iconic Gymnastics Academy founders, Level 3 TeamGym coach Vic Hendry and her Level 4 TeamGym coach mum, Shirley Hendry, who have 50 years’ combined coaching experience.
