Woolford is full of praise as top-eight is secured

other, both in attack and defence, and gained the rewards their efforts deserved.”

Castleford were far from their best, being restricted to three first-half tries from Jake Trueman, Junior Moors and Jamie Ellis, who also added the three conversions.

But coach Daryl Powell was making no excuses.

“I thought we were off the pace, but Huddersfield were great. They played really well,” conceded Powell, whose side finished with 12 fit men due to injuries.

“We did cop a fair few injuries, although that wasn’t the reason we lost. We lost because of our attitude and the fact that Huddersfield looked more desperate for the win than us.

“That’s obviously hugely disappointing, and I can’t remember the last time we fell apart in the second half as badly as we did in this game. After starting the game well, things just seemed to fall apart.” SALFORD Red Devils head coach Ian Watson heaped praise on Catalans Dragons half-back Josh Drinkwater following his side’s 44-10 loss in Perpignan.

Fouad Yaha touched down for four tries and Kenny Edwards scored two as Catalans Dragons crushed Salford.

The home side scored their first try in the sixth minute and rarely looked troubled as they ran out comfortable winners to secure their place in the Super League for 2019.

“Catalans are a good team at home, everyone knows that, they’ve re-built half way through the year with Josh Drinkwater coming in and on the back of that you can see what he adds to the Catalans, his kicking game particularly he’s killed us out there today,” Watson said.

“The game was nip and tuck and at 10-4 we were kind of getting back into that arm wrestle and then Drinkwater’s kicking game, we had to defend five sets back to back and they capitalised. They scored a bit of a scrappy try and we didn’t really get it back from there.”

Catalans coach Steve McNamara was delighted with his side’s win over Salford, a victory that secured their Super League status for 2019.

“I’m relieved that we finally know it’s done, it’s been a long road for us so far this season,” McNamara said. WAKEFIELD ran riot against a shambolic Hull to gain a record 72-10 victory and ensure a top-eight finish.

It also means a bottom-four placing for reigning champions Leeds, who will have to fight for their survival in the Super 8s Qualifiers for the second time in three years.

Chris Chester’s men ran in 12 tries and Ryan Hampshire kicked 12 goals from 13 attempts as Trinity registered their highest score in Super League history.

It was also Hull’s biggestever Super League defeat, eclipsing their 64-10 hammering by St Helens in 2002, and effectively ended their top-four hopes after a third successive defeat.
