HONLEY FEAST
Honley Feast is back this year for another tasty round, after being revived a few years ago by the Honley Business Association (HBA), in an updated version of its previous 19th century iteration. Back in the mid-1800s, when the festival was first established, the Honley Feast was a gathering for the local community to celebrate with food and drink. In the original feast, typical foods were roast beef and pickled red cabbage, currant puddings and home-brewed beer. The event itself featured a circus and later a fair with games. The feast has always been focus for the community and features various marquees with live performance of music, drama and literature. will take place on 22 September.
While still retaining the character of the old and in the grand tradition of gatherings within the Honley community, the feast has been awakened from its slumber to take on a more contemporary feel.
This year there will be loads on for the entire family, including a village parade, cookery demonstrations, live theatre, dog agility contests, and of course a wide variety of food and drink stalls to delight the taste buds. Plus, there’s an epic musical battle planned – the Battle of the Bands.
Taking place at Honley Cricket Club, the celebration will run from 10am to 6pm.
