Training the next generation of skilled workers is vital to ensuring companies’ continued success.

Recognising the important role apprenticeships play, the Examiner Business Awards has introduced a new category this year, the Apprenticeship Award sponsored by Syngenta.

This new award is open to any business in the region demonstrating a real commitment to training local young people through apprenticeships, providing them with real work experience whilst being supported by workplace mentors.

Apprentices should have been actively engaged in the shaping of working practices and been offered a job on completion – ideally with a plan for further development and/or progression opportunities within the business.

A spokesperson for the category sponsor said: “Syngenta is very proud to be category sponsor of Apprentice Employer of the Year in support of the 2018 Examiner Business Awards.

“The work we do at Syngenta helps farmers all over the world grow higher yields from their crops, providing greater choice of quality food at an affordable price.

“The Examiner Business Awards are a prestigious occasion to recognise the important contribution that businesses make to our local economy through innovation, skills and trade. “For our part, we continue to invest in our apprenticeship programme, providing employment opportunities for local people and we remain committed to keeping professional and skilled manufacturing jobs in Kirklees for many years to come.

“We work very hard to develop our own apprentices and as a Top 100 Apprentice Employer in the UK, we know just how important apprenticeships are to the growth and sustainability of UK business performance.”
